Michael Messina
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Messina, affectionately known as Mike Messina, on June 17, 2024. Born on March 5, 1952, in Wilmington, DE, Mike was an individual whose compassionate heart, adventurous spirit, and courageous attitude left a lasting impact on all who knew him. His enduring love for his family, friends, and faithful companion, Rosco, was a testament to his character. Mike’s career journey was as diverse as his interests. He began his professional life working for Coca Cola and later as an 18 wheeler truck driver hauling pipe and liquid oxygen. Eventually, he found his calling in home renovation, specializing in sheetrock and house painting. His hard work, dedication, and natural talent led him to establish his own business in home repair and remodeling. Despite retiring early due to health challenges, Mike remained active, often found playing dominos, fishing, hunting, and playing poker. Michael’s Catholic faith was an essential part of his life, having been baptized at St. Anthony’s in Wilmington, Delaware. His belief in the teachings of the church provided him strength and solace throughout his life. In the words of Psalm 23:4, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff— they comfort me.” This verse was a source of comfort for Mike, reminding him of the Lord’s guiding hand in his life. Michael is survived by his loving family, including, his son Anthony (Cherie) Messina, his daughter Derinda “Dee Dee” (Ronnie) Long, his son Brian (Corene) Messina his grandchildren. MIchael Messina, Blaze (Christina) Messina, Ayden Messina, , Justin (Erin) Long, Jayce (Ryan) Smart, Taylor (Rodrigo) Fernandez, Tanna (Taylor) Berry, great grandchildren DiAngelo Emilio Messina Fernandez, Paisley Messina Berry, sisters Darlene (Dennis) Messina/Busickio and Petrece (James) Podlesney his Aunt Donna Messina and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor (Harold) Ruggerio Messina Maisano and Joseph Michael Messina, and his brother, Daniel (Patricia) Maisano.
