It is with profound sadness, and in the spirit of celebrating a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Jessica Hernandez, affectionately known as “Jess” by her loved ones. Born on February 26, 1972, in Eagle Lake, Texas, Jessica was a funny, loving, spirited, and thoughtful woman. Her laughter was contagious, her love boundless, and her spirit was a beacon of light to those fortunate enough to know her. Jessica’s thoughtful nature shone through in all that she did, from her impassioned poetry to her love of dancing to the rhythm of Z-Ro’s music. In the words of Maya Angelou, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” This quote encapsulates the essence of Jessica’s impact on those around her. Jessica was a resident of North Las Vegas, Nevada for 16 years, where she embraced life with a jovial spirit and a heart full of love. Despite the challenges life threw her way, Jessica’s love for her family remained her unwavering anchor. She was a woman who celebrated life and found joy in the simplest of things. As a poet, she had a unique way of expressing her emotions, her thoughts, and her dreams, often leaving those who read her work in awe of her wisdom and depth. Jessica is lovingly remembered by her son Francisco (Desiree) Jr, daughter Bianca Chapa, sisters Lisa (Alfredo) Zavala, Michelle (Noel) Guzman, Naomi (Julio) Matus, Marsela Garcia, Kimberly Lujan-Bluntson, great grandmother Gloria Reyes, and brother Michael Lujan. She was preceded in death by her father Michael Lujan and mother Irma Guzman. Each of these individuals shared a unique bond with Jessica, reflecting the multifaceted woman she was. Her loss is deeply felt, but the memories she left behind will forever remain alive in the hearts of those who loved her. While words cannot fully express the depth of our loss, we remember Jessica with heartfelt gratitude for the joy, love, and laughter she brought into our lives.
